Christmas Volunteers @ Crisis

is the national charity for single homeless people, dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering life-changing services and campaigning for change. Crisis opens temporary centres across London for the city’s homeless from 23rd-30th December to provide Christmas cheer, vital companionship, hot meals, warmth, and a wide range of essential services that homeless people often miss out on.

There are a range of volunteer roles available:

General Volunteers are absolutely vital to the smooth running of Crisis at Christmas and over 6,000 sociable and helpful people are needed to work on a variety of tasks such as welcoming guests, serving food, sorting bedding and generally making sure things go to plan.

Logistics Volunteers make Crisis at Christmas happen. From logistics and back office roles to driving vehicles, from co-ordinating food deliveries to translating, they need key people with special skills to help deliver the event.

Service Volunteers are people with special qualifications that give guests access to services they usually miss out on, including medical professionals, advice practitioners, hairdressers, alternative therapists, caterers and dog handlers.

Arts and Entertainment Volunteers are needed help inspire and entertain guests at the centres with performances of all kinds. Crisis are looking for musicians, magicians, workshop-organisers, sports trainers and anyone who can entertain and  help create some Christmas spirit in guests’ lives.

All of Crisis’ centres are within zone 1 and 2. There are day centres in Finsbury Park, Stratford, Bermondsey, Hammersmith and Deptford and residential centres which are still to be confirmed.

All volunteers are required to do a minimum of two shifts across the week on two different days but can do a maximum of eight shifts over the week.
