case studies
Below are some examples of organisations that involve volunteers in Southwark. The case studies will give you some idea of what different types of roles volunteers can take but are by no means exhaustive. Enjoy the read.
Blackfriars Settlement
Blackfriars Settlement has been changing lives in SE1 for over a hundred years. Our aims have always been to improve the living conditions of residents in the area, which ranks high in deprivation indices.
Blackfriars Work Centre +
BWC+ provides opportunities for people who have experienced mental health problems. We have a range of areas in which our members can formally develop or recover skills. We also have an informal weekly drop-in and a user-led friendship group called Friends in the Neighbourhood.
The Imperial War Museum
Volunteers make a crucial contribution to the operation and continued development of the Imperial War Museum (IWM). This leaflet seeks to provide the first time enquirer with a more detailed insight into the volunteer programme now operated at our three London Branches.
London Wildlife Trust
London Wildlife Trust is the only charity dedicated solely to protecting the capital’s wildlife and wild spaces. We manage over fifty London-wide reserves and campaign to save important wildlife habitats, engaging London’s diverse communities through access to our nature reserves, volunteering programmes and education work.
Southwark Cathedral
Southwark Cathedral, London Bridge has over 500 volunteers, ranging from members of the congregation who make coffee after the morning services to choir parents who help look after the boys’ and girls’ choirs, through to those assisting in the Cathedral Shop and specialist flower arrangers.
