Take advantage of the FREE training we have coming up and gain skills, increase your confidence, meet others from Southwark & get more active in the community.


Introduction to Being a Magistrate Training


Community Cohesion
Thursday 24th January, 10am-2pm
at Inspire, The Crypt at St Peter's, Liverpool Grove (Main Hall)

This session explores the diverse nature of community groups in Southwark and uses case studies and other media to explore ways of bringing people together.


Introduction to Being a Magistrate

Thursday 6th December, 10am-2pm
SCCF, 8th Floor, Hannibal House, Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre

This interactive half-day session aims to provide a general understanding of the role of a magistrate and the application process. it also looks at how you would apply the law using real life case studies. This session is ideal for anyone who ever wondered what a magistrate does, or is interested in applying.


Introduction to Being a Trustee
Wednesday 30th January, 6pm-8pm
at Volunteer Centre Southwark office

This session will provide a brief introduction to the role of the trustee and the rights and responsibilities involved in trusteeship.


Introduction to Volunteering and Being Active
Thursday 13th December, 2pm-4pm; Thursday 10th January, 2pm-4pm and
Wednesday 20th February, 2pm-4pm
at Volunteer Centre Southwark office

This 2 hour session looks at what volunteering is, the diversity of opportunities on offer, how to find the right opportunity and how to make it work for you. It also looks at the different ways in which people can become active and involved in their community and covers the support and opportunities offered by the Active Citizens Hub.


Magistrate Follow-up Session
Monday 10th December, 12:30pm-4:30pm
at Peckham Library Pod

This course is for anyone that has previously attended the Introduction to Being a Magistrate course and would like guidance on completing the application form.

Presentation Skills
Tuesday 12th February, 10am-4pm
at Inspire, The Crypt at St Peter's, Liverpool Grove (Main Hall)

This full-day interactive session will provide you with tips on preparing and delivering effective presentations, getting your point across and using visual aids e.g hand-outs and Powerpoint slides. This course is the perfect follow-on from our Speak Up! Speak Out! course.


Speak Up! Speak Out!
Tuesday 29th January, 10am-4pm and Wednesday 27th February, 10am-4pm
at Inspire, The Crypt at St Peter's, Liverpool Grove (Main Hall)

This is a full-day introductory and interactive public speaking course and covers different techniques for dealing with nerves and putting your point across.

Join the Southwark Trustee Network - see 2008 dates below!

The Southwark Trustee Network is run by trustees for trustees and is a great way to meet other local trustees, get support, tips and training.

The network meets on Monday evenings from 6-8pm once every three months at London South Bank University. The next meeting in January will be focusing on Risk Management.
